One of the most common questions new investors have is “How the heck do I track all of my investments?”. With investors having so many different asset classes these days from Shares to Real Estate to Crypto portfolio management is crucial. Until Sharesight gave us the solution it was up to old school excel spreadsheets to have all of your investments and assets in one place.
Enter the Sharesight Portfolio Tracker which many investors are turning to in order to keep track of their portfolios and access powerful reports. It offers a variety of features and tools that make it an attractive option for investors. In this Sharesight review, we will take a look at how Sharesight works and see if it might be the right choice for you!
What is Sharesight?
Sharesight is a portfolio tracker that helps investors keep track of their portfolios and performance. Sharesight automatically tracks all of your investments one place. This allows you to connect all of your investment accounts in one spot, making it easy to see your entire portfolio at a glance.
Sharesight also offers powerful reporting features, which can help you track your progress over time and makes tax reporting an absolute breeze.
Trusted by 300,000+ users worldwide, Sharesight is a handy tool to have in your toolbelt for both experienced and newbie investors a like.
How Does Sharesight Work?
Sharesight is an absolute boss when it comes to portfolio tracking – it automatically calculates the performance of your overall portfolio and individual holdings, capital gains, dividends, and currency movements are all shown in dollars and annualised percentages.
One of the reasons we absolutely love Sharesight is you can track your portfolio’s performance in heaps of different ways, including growth graphs, value graphs and performance index charts.
By being able to import data directly from your online share broker (or multiple brokerage accounts) It’s super easy to use and has heaps of advanced features to help you stay on top of your investments. You can benchmark your performance against a ton of different funds or markets, and Sharesight makes it really easy to group your holdings however you want.
Whether you want to group them by market, country, investment type, or asset allocation model, Sharesight has you covered.
Not only does it provide comprehensive reports, but it’s also really easy to use. Whether you’re on the free plan or one of the paid plans, you’ll have access to all the reports you need to keep track of your investments.
What are the key features of Sharesight?
Share Checker
My absolute favourite part of Sharesight is the share checker. You probably have noticed we use this on basically every stock/ETF review when we look at performance.
This nifty little feature allows you to quickly and easily see the performance of an individual stock based on a $10,000 investment – perfect for keeping on top of your top performing stocks (or the ones you might want to really look at if they aren’t doing so well.)
You can change the ‘look back’ period to be anywhere from one day to 20 years. This historical data gives you a great overview of the stocks capital growth and how it has performed in the long term.
You will also be able to see how the given stock has performed against the ASX200 index.
Sharesight Reporting
As mentioned before, Sharesight really is a portfolio tracker with a difference. It not only allows you to track your investment portfolio, but also offers in-depth reporting and analysis features. This makes it an ideal tool for investors who want to keep on top of their investments and like to make tax time an absolute breeze.
I have found that one of the best things about Sharesight’s reporting function is that it is so comprehensive, let’s take a look at the two categories of reporting Sharesight offers.
Performance Reporting
This is what we all love to see (maybe not so much on the red days/weeks/years). But in general Sharesight gives investors in depth performance reporting data so you can track your capital gains, dividend payments, portfolio share movements (shares added from a dividend reinvestment plan) and more.
Sharesight’s performance reporting function allows you to find out how your investments have performed over a certain time period and in comparison to an index. This is hugely useful for investors who are tracking both their own investment portfolio performance and that of the underlying index.
Tax Reporting
Where Sharesight really makes a difference is at tax time with its superior tax reporting. You can download all the information required for your tax return in a super-easy manner and have it sent straight to your accountant. It really is that simple! The reports will outline any dividend income, CGT and provide you with the complete picture of what you bought and sold in the year. Who said tax time has to be stressful? Sharesight is doing all the heavy lifting for you.
Sharesight Assets
Sharesight is super smart when it comes to the different asset classes it can track. Whether you have a portfolio of ETFs, Managed Funds, Singular ASX shares, Cash Accounts, Cryptocurrencies, Real estate or Beanie Babies and Pokemon cards; Sharesight has you covered. Note: some of these might only be available the custom investment function..
How much does it cost to use Sharesight?
Free Sharesight Account
One of the most awesome things about Sharesight is that they offer a free account that is actually usable unlike some other free trials. The free account allows you to track up to 10 assets at absolutely no cost. So if you are an ETF investor and only have a handful of investments you might be able to get away with the free plan.
Premium Sharesight Account
There is also the option to upgrade your subscription to one of three premium account options starting at a very reasonable $19 a month (or $152 for a year if paid annually). The Basic Starter account provides you with the same benefits as the free account but you can get twice the amount of investments that you can track (free = 10, starter = 20).
Moving up to the more advanced packages, “Investor Plan” or “Expert Plan” see not only an increase in price but a huge increase in reporting capabilities. The Investor Plan unlocks portfolio and tax reports such as Diversity and Future Income reports while Expert Gives you the whole suite. Both plans add cash accounts, more in depth bench marking and unlimited holdings.

Sharesight is the brainchild of the Kiwi Father and Son Duo, Tony & Scott Ryburn. Click here to read more about the Sharesight team!
Is Sharesight a trading platform?
Nope, Sharesight is not a trading platform. You won’t be able to buy or sell shares through sharesight – think of it as a really detailed investing tool that keeps all of your investment information in one easy to find place. It replaces that old crusty excel spreadsheet you’ve been using for the past 10 years. If you are looking for a trading platform be sure to check out our Trading Platform reviews.
Is Sharesight Safe to Use?
Yep! It’s safe to use, and your sensitive data is always encrypted. Plus, Sharesight employs a number of other electronic and physical security measures to keep your data safe. These include 2FA (2 Factor Authentication) and bigger picture stuff like the data centers they use.
Is there a free option?
If you only want to track 10 or less holdings then you can opt for the free Sharesight plan. This is the perfect way to trial Sharesight and see how much power this platform gives you. Once you feel comfortable on the platform you can always upgrade your plan to the premium plan.
Does Sharesight Support all markets?
Sharesight supports the major stock exchanges around the world and tout they currently support over 40 markets. Remember that if they don’t support your exact asset class you can always add it as a custom investment.
Is there a Sharesight App?
There is a Sharesight app available, that being said it isn’t really suitable to use as a standalone app, this of it more as a companion to the web based sharesight program.
The Sharesight app is available on both Apple and Android, you can download it from your respective store.
Should I get the Sharesight Premium Plan?
The free plan should be a good indicator of if you will need to buy a premium paid account or not. If you have under 10 holdings and only need basic performance tracking and reporting then you are probably good to stick with that.
If you have a portfolio of over 10 stocks or would like more advanced benchmarking and tax reporting then you should seriously consider one of the three premium plans.
Can Sharesight track Cryptocurrency?
It sure can! Sharesight currently supports eight of the major Cryptocurrencies on the market:
- Bitcoin
- Bitshares
- Dash
- Ethereum
- Litecoin
- Monero
- Ripple
- Stellar
If you hold other currencies that aren’t on the list you can always add these through the custom investment section.
Is Sharesight Worth it?
Sharesight is definitely worth it on so many different levels, especially because the free version is bloody awesome! The best way to see if Sharesight is right for you is to sign up for a free account and give it a go – you have nothing to lose and so much to gain by trying it.
Sharesight review: In summary
Sharesight is a great portfolio management tool that provides the ability to automatically track your portfolio using live investment data.
